Auguste Meessen was a physicist at the Université catholique de Louvain. His name runs through Belgian cases investigated by SOBEPS. In 1974 he visited the Vilvoorde witness known as V.M. with Jean-Luc Vertongen and Maurice de San. He found the man honest and well regarded. The witness told him of earlier visions, one of them Christ wearing a crown of thorns. Meessen concluded these were waking dreams and set the case aside. Years later came the Petit-Rechain triangle photograph of 1990. There, Meessen suggested that the lights were plasma jets.
