A pope whose name runs through the archive's Marian apparition cases. Pius XII approved the Fátima apparitions in 1940. According to Cardinal Federico Tedeschini, he saw the same miracle of the sun from the Vatican gardens in 1950, and his handwritten notes, found in 2008, record that he was awestruck. On 7 October 1944 he confirmed Our Lady of Coromoto as patroness of Venezuela. In 1941 he set the feast of Our Lady of China, born of the Donglü legend. And in 1954 he acknowledged the Sicilian bishops' declaration on the Weeping Madonna of Syracuse.
