In this archive, John Paul II appears as the pope who set his seal on old Marian apparition sites. 1988. He made the church at Šiluva a minor basilica, then visited in 1993. On 10 February 1996 he inaugurated the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Coromoto at Monte de los Negros, the traditional site of the second apparition. In 1997 his bicentenary letter for Our Lady of La Vang gave the official wording of her message. He also dedicated the basilica beside the house of the Weeping Madonna of Syracuse, on 6 November 1994.
