Jay Rath

Person 3 stories, 1882 to 1974

A Wisconsin writer who keeps returning to the state's strangest stories. In 1997 Jay Rath published The W-Files, which retold the 1882 encounter with the Rock Lake Serpent at Lake Mills. The book also covered William Bosak's 1974 meeting with a furry creature in a bell-shaped craft near Frederic. In Rath's telling, the car lights dimmed and the engine seemed to miss. The encounter lasted about 10 seconds. In 2013, writing in Isthmus, Rath revisited Billy Dunn's 1883 Lake Mendota sea serpent. He placed the couple just off North Brearly, across the lake from the spot the original report described.
