A magazine. Across these cases, Fate was where strange stories found print and lasting life. January 1953. Gray Barker, a Braxton County native, wrote "The Monster and the Saucer" about the Flatwoods Monster for its pages, his first UFO article and the start of his road to the Men in Black lore. May 1965. It ran Edward Brian McCleary's "My Escape from a Sea Monster," a retelling of his Pensacola ordeal in fog and still water. In April 1978, Loren Coleman and Fideler wrote up the Chicago phantom kangaroo there.
