3 October 1958. Just after three in the morning. Monon Railroad freight No. 91 rolled south through central Indiana with 56 cars behind it. Fireman Cecil Bridge saw four lights ahead. He took them for stars. Then they moved. For an hour and ten minutes, four glowing discs paced the train from Wasco to Kirklin. They swept low over the cars. They lit up one after another. They hovered over the tracks behind the caboose. When conductor Ed Robinson aimed a flashlight at them, they jumped sideways out of the beam. All five crew members saw them. The Air Force said it had no record.
