Falmouth Packet

Organisation 3 stories, 1903 to 1976

A local Cornish newspaper. Twice it became the place where a sea monster story first surfaced. In 1903 Captain White of the Falmouth tug Triton told the Falmouth Packet of a 100-ft sea serpent off the Longships, and that one account in one local paper is the whole of the record. Early in 1976 a letter reached the paper, dated 29 February and signed only "Mary F". Two photographs were enclosed, said to show the creature later called Morgawr off Trefusis. Folklorists later speculated that Tony "Doc" Shiels sent them.
