Connemara

Place 5 stories, 1833 to 2003

Bog country in County Galway, scattered with small dark loughs. Here the old stories of the water monster never quite went away. Locals called it the horse-eel. In 1954 Georgina Carberry's sighting at Lough Fadda gave the legend its lasting name, and in 1968 the Coyne family's encounter at Lough Nahooin drew members of the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau to Clifden, where they stretched a net across the lough. The animal was never found. Brian Reddin's 2006 documentary The Connemara Monster revisited both lakes.
