A gorge near Mount St. Helens in Washington. In 1924 miners reported their cabin under attack there, with rocks thrown. Fred Beck said he shot a creature at the canyon's edge, and it toppled four hundred feet into the gorge. The place has carried the name Ape Canyon ever since. Beck told the full story in 1967, in I Fought the Apemen of Mount St. Helens. The 1980 eruption badly damaged the gorge, and in 2013 Marc Myrsell and the Dark Waters Paranormal Group said they had relocated the cabin site. Researchers place it about 20 years after the Sixes River wild man of 1904.
