Two places in the archive share this name. The first is Kelso, West Otago. Friday 23 July, noon. Twenty-three schoolchildren and one adult watched an object sail over the hill, hover, then rise and head for the Blue Mountains, part of The New Zealand Phantom Airship Scare of 1909. The second Kelso lies below Mount St. Helens. In 1924 the miners of the Ape Canyon "Apemen" Attack came down there after their night under bombardment. Within days the story was in the Kelsonian and The Oregonian.
