Spring 1933. Aldie Mackay, manageress of the Drumnadrochit Hotel, was driving from Inverness to Drumnadrochit with her husband John. Near Abriachan Pier, the calm loch suddenly erupted in a tremendous upheaval. She first thought of two ducks fighting, but it was far too extensive. In April 1933 the Inverness Courier reported her sighting of a whale-like creature. Her account set off a wave of reports, leading to the Spicer land sighting that July and Arthur Grant's encounter on the Abriachan road in January 1934.
