July 30, 1976. The small hours, on a mountain at the Pennsylvania border. Two security patrols at Site R, the hidden command bunker known as the underground Pentagon, looked up. They saw 3 oblong objects with a reddish tint, moving east to west. Five minutes later the desk sergeant climbed to the top of the mountain. A UFO was there, over the ammo storage area, at 100-200 yard altitude. One witness said it was about the size of a 2 1/2 ton truck. Before dawn the reports had reached the Pentagon. A one-page memo is all that survives.
Raven Rock Mountain Complex sits in Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, near Blue Ridge Summit. Insiders call it Site R. Others call it the underground Pentagon. In 1976 it housed the Alternate National Military Command Center, the ANMCC, a backup for the heart of American military command. Its support post was Fort Ritchie, just across the line in Cascade, Maryland.
