The Tasmanian UFO Investigation Centre, known as TUFOIC, has looked into the island's sightings since at least 1969. 1974 was its busiest year. Almost 200 reports, with over 50 left unexplained. That September, investigator Roger Brooks visited a remote farm near St Helens after a car-stop encounter and said he believed the frightened witness. The following year its team interviewed witnesses to the domed object at Lake Sorell. Director Keith Roberts later supplied the St Helens file to Keith Basterfield, and long-time member Roberts estimates that most reports find a ready explanation.
