The marsupial lion. Thylacoleo carnifex is the name cryptozoologists reach for when a striped or catlike predator turns up in the Australian bush. It was offered for the striped Queensland tiger behind The Sheridan Boy case at Cardwell in 1871, alongside the thylacine and a long list of rivals. Some saw it again in Rilla Martin's 1964 Ozenkadnook Tiger photograph. In 2003, after the Kenthurst attack on Luke Walker, Gilroy read the prints as a marsupial's three lobed pad and argued for a surviving relative of the animal. Walker had called it feline.
