A village on the New York shore of Lake Champlain. Port Henry sits on Bulwagga Bay, in the Town of Moriah, Essex County. Here, in 1819, a captain in a scow gave the earliest printed Champ report, recalled in Captain Crum's Bulwagga Bay sighting. In 2021 the William G. Pomeroy Foundation placed an "Origin of Champ" marker on the shore of the bay. The village still holds Champ Day, which keeps alive the 1873 railroad crew sighting and Sheriff Nathan H. Mooney's 1883 account of the water serpent.
