phantom kangaroo

Term 3 stories, 1934 to 1978

Kangaroos far from home. That is the heart of this term, used for reports of the animals in places they do not belong. South Pittsburg, 1934, is counted among the earliest American cases. Forty years later came the 1974 Chicago sightings, when patrolmen Byrne and Ciagi met one in an alley, and that kangaroo was never found. April 1978 brought the Waukesha County wave in Wisconsin, though three men eventually admitted to a plywood cutout. Loren Coleman and Jerome Clark kept the pattern in print.
