A great river runs through two of the archive's strangest creature reports. In the summer of 1955, people swam off its Indiana bank at Dogtown, the old name for Cypress, west of Evansville in Vanderburgh County. There the case of the Green Clawed Beast unfolded, near the Dogtown Tavern on Old Henderson Road and the old ferry landing to Kentucky. Four years later, the river returned. Thursday, January 29, 1959. Before dawn near Cincinnati, high winds drove waves of 6 to 8 feet down the water, and the street lights along Kellogg Avenue went out. That night gave rise to the Ohio River Monster, later called Octo-Man.
