A city on the Indiana bank of the Ohio River, in Vanderburgh County. Dogtown, the old name for Cypress, lies just to its west. August 14, 1955, is the most likely date. Mrs. Darwin Johnson of 1304 Fountain in Evansville swam off that stretch of river and felt something grab her leg. The Evansville Press carried the story on August 15, and the city still tells it as the Green-Clawed Beast. Twenty years later, an Evansville television station showed footage tied to the Spottsville Monster of Henderson County, Kentucky.
