A Greek photographer and geologist, born in St Petersburg. N. A. Tombazi worked in Calcutta for the Ralli Brothers trading company and lived in Darjeeling. 1925. At 31, he led a small photographic and climbing expedition to the southern glaciers of Kangchenjunga, in the Sikkim Himalaya. Near the Zemu Glacier, he saw an upright figure. His sighting became a link in the yeti chain, running from B. H. Hodgson's shooters in 1832 and the Metoh-Kangmi tracks at the Lhakpa La in 1921 to Eric Shipton's footprint photographs in 1951.
