Author of Yeti: The Ecology of a Mystery, Daniel C. Taylor spent years in the Barun valley. In 1983 he found a trail of his own there. He traced it to the Asiatic black bear, whose hind foot can land over its front-foot print and leave a human looking track. He later reproduced the effect with a tranquilised bear at the Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden in Kathmandu. In 2017 he applied the idea to the Shipton and Ward prints on the Menlung Glacier. In 2019 he questioned the scale of the Indian Army prints near Makalu Base Camp, saying the measurements needed to be confirmed.
