A professional mountaineer, author and one of the finest mountain photographers of his day. Frank Smythe led the first ascent of Kamet in 1931. Two years later he climbed with Hugh Ruttledge's Fourth British Everest Expedition on the north side of the mountain, and became the sole witness to the "Pulsating Teapots" of 1933. Then came 1937. Back in the Bhyundar Valley in Garhwal, with three Sherpas and no other Europeans, he found tracks in the snow. He followed them. He photographed them. His pictures joined those of C. R. Cooke and Eric Shipton in the story of yeti footprints.
