A writer on the yeti. Odette Tchernine wrote The Snowman and Company and The Yeti (1970), and reviewed the evidence in the journal Oryx. Her books helped carry older reports to Western readers. Laurence Waddell's footprints in Sikkim, from 1889, were one such story. Topilsky's Pamir wild man of 1925 was another, spread in the West through her work and Myra Shackley's. In Oryx she also took up Don Whillans' 1970 Annapurna sighting. She described a dark, hair-covered bipedal creature scraping the snow. Other retellings disagreed, and Whillans' own words suggested it moved on all fours.
