Three different places share this name in the archive. In Jefferson County, southern Illinois, Mount Vernon sits near Gum Creek, where a 1941 creature story began that writers came to call the Mount Vernon "Baboon." A zoo in the Mount Vernon area also surfaced in one explanation for the 1963 Tuttle Bottoms Monster. In Virginia, seven miles west of Mount Vernon, Capt. Willis T. Sperry's American Airlines DC-6 crew saw a brilliant bluish light in 1950. And in Westchester County, balloons escaping from a school party in Mount Vernon became the answer to the Chelsea Silver Objects over Manhattan in 2010.
