A religious studies scholar at Texas State University. Joseph Laycock appears in the archive as a commentator on visions, possessions and haunted objects. He wrote The Seer of Bayside, and called the Bayside apparitions perhaps the only Marian case whose alleged miracles drew a criminal investigation. Writing for the University of Chicago Divinity School, he linked the long delay over Champion, Wisconsin, to American Catholic unease with Marian devotion. In 2020 he published the Bunse manuscript on the Earling exorcism. He also saw the Annabelle doll as a study in pop culture and paranormal folklore.
