Seymour Hess was a meteorologist who studied the skies of Mars. Since 1948 he had worked at Lowell Observatory, on Mars Hill above Flagstaff, Arizona. Saturday, May 20, 1950. Shortly after noon, Hess saw a bright object moving from southeast to northwest, and followed it through 4-power binoculars. It looked like a tipped parachute, with no wings, no propeller and no visible engine. Decades later he headed the Viking landers' meteorology team. A different Hess, anthropologist David J. Hess, wrote on the Guarulhos Poltergeist, and his paper ended up among the CIA's STARGATE holdings.
