A town in South Africa's Eastern Cape. In 1972 it gave its name to one of the region's strangest cases. On Braeside farm, about 14 kilometres outside town, police and farmers opened fire on a flying saucer. The sightings kept coming. A park ranger, the farmer's wife and the town engineer all reported objects that July. Fort Beaufort was one of about 25 Eastern Cape sightings that year. Its shadow reaches later cases too. Grokipedia confuses the 1995 Coligny road-block landing with it, and the 2016 Jeffreys Bay green object sits beside it on Wikipedia's list of South African sightings.
