An astronomer and author, Camille Flammarion founded the journal L'Astronomie. He believed hauntings were real. Sometimes the dead at work, sometimes the psychic powers of the living. In Les Maisons hantées he retold the Calvados Castle Poltergeist at the Château des Noyers and reproduced the Gazette account of the Rue des Grès stone-throwing outbreak in Paris, 1849. His journal also carried José Bonilla's report of objects crossing the Sun at Zacatecas in 1883. Flammarion could not reach a definitive conclusion. He suspected birds, insects or dust in front of the telescope.
