A reference work of the SPR, it turns up as a quiet authority behind several classic cases. The Calvados Castle poltergeist of 1875 at the Château des Noyers is one. The encyclopedia ranks it with Coimbra among two of the most dramatic on record. Sweden's Karin case of 1904, the Hornsö rappings of Karin Nauckhoff, serves as its example of responsive rapping. The Chaffin will case of 1925 is another. A dead father's apparition revealed a hidden will, and the encyclopedia uses it as an example of a purposeful apparition.
