November 2007. The Khumbu region of Nepal, in the shadow of Mount Everest. A nine-person crew from the Sci Fi Channel series Destination Truth was searching for the Yeti. On the bank of the Manju River, at about 2,850 metres, they found three footprints in the sandy soil. One was complete. A right foot, five toes, about a foot long. It looked fresh. Left some 24 hours before. Host Josh Gates did not believe it was a bear. The crew filmed every step, poured plaster casts and carried them to Kathmandu. Within days the story was on the wires around the world. Nobody saw a creature. Only the tracks remained.

Context

Destination Truth was a Sci Fi Channel series that sent host Josh Gates, described as an archaeologist, after reports of unexplained creatures. In November 2007 the show took a nine-person team of producers to the Khumbu region near Mount Everest. They were looking into Yeti sightings reported by Sherpas and farmers living in the remote region. The Yeti had been searched for here since the 1920s. No reputable investigator had ever confirmed it scientifically.
