The Baviaanspoort and Eersterust Triangle Sightings, Pretoria

April 7, 1991 · Baviaanspoort and Eersterust, Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa
13Thinly documented UAP Triangle 14 sources

Sunday, 7 April 1991. Baviaanspoort, on the north-eastern edge of Pretoria. A family saw a series of lights in the sky. To them, it was one craft. A hovering triangle. A red light at its centre. White, star-like lights at each corner. By one account, it hung silently overhead. The next evening, similar lights appeared over nearby Eersterust township. Then again on 9 April. Sometimes stationary. Sometimes moving. The Afrikaans daily Beeld ran four reports in three days. One headline said it all: no explanation could be given.

Context

In April 1991, the Belgian UFO wave had been over for about a year. The black triangle had become the defining shape of the era. Then a triangle was reported somewhere very different. The north-eastern fringe of Pretoria, South Africa. Baviaanspoort lies within the Kameeldrift area. Eersterust, a township about 15 km east of the city centre, sits some 7 or 8 km to the south. Over three nights, both places would report lights in the sky.
