Three different men named Thompson appear in the archive. Winter, 1811. David Thompson, a surveyor, trader and mapmaker for the North West Company, measured a large track in the snow on the frozen Athabasca River, which his men took for a young mammoth. In 1952, Master Signaller Thompson of 269 Squadron was among the airmen named in the press during the RAF Topcliffe sighting at Exercise Mainbrace. August 5, 1963. Saline County Sheriff James L. Thompson met an armed youth at Tuttle Bottoms who said a monster was loose. Later that night he sent a dozen armed boys home.
