Nandor Fodor was research officer at the International Institute for Psychical Research, described as its chief ghost hunter. He stayed a week at the Irving farm to investigate Gef the talking mongoose. He saw and heard nothing, yet first concluded Gef existed. In the 1950s he reversed course, seeing Gef as a split-off part of Jim Irving's personality. July 1936 brought him to Ash Manor in Surrey for three nights of flash photographs. In 1938 he tested Alma Fielding of Thornton Heath, using an X-ray machine in secret that revealed concealed objects.
