Farnborough

Place 3 stories, 1950 to 1967

An air-minded district in southern England, home to the Royal Aircraft Establishment. On 14 August 1950, Flight Lieutenant Stan Hubbard reported discs over Farnborough. A tower group saw something too. The case became one of only three the Air Ministry's committee, chaired by G. L. Turney, thought worth a closer look, alongside RAF Tangmere. Its June 1951 report blamed an optical illusion or a misjudged normal aircraft. In 1967 the establishment's apprentices, known for pranks, went further. Led by Chris Southall and Roger Palmer, they built six saucers for Rag Week.
