Pirassununga, São Paulo. 6 February 1969, about 7:30 in the morning. Residents of Bairro Pinheiro watched a luminous object come down into the scrub. Their shouting woke Tiago Machado, a 19-year-old grape seller. He took his binoculars and went to look. He found a shiny metallic disc on a tripod, shaped like one plate on top of another, with a dome. Two short beings in aluminium-coloured suits came out to meet him. They laughed at his cigarette. The pack he threw floated up into a waiting hand. Then one of them hit his leg with a blue flame. The Brazilian Air Force investigated. Its file has never been released.
