July 15, 1966. Rural Richmond, on Lulu Island in the Fraser River delta. Don Gilmore was up on the farmhouse roof, shingling. Then came the sound of a stampede. A dark, hairy animal was chasing the cattle. Over the next week, others saw it too. An artist, John Osborne, watched a slim, hair-covered figure about seven feet tall, then drew it. A babysitter saw a head and shoulders above six-foot raspberry bushes at night. A storekeeper watched it cross a dirt road. The Vancouver Sun ran the story. Sasquatch researchers John Green and René Dahinden came looking. They found no tracks. But something large had bedded down in nearby bushes.
