Saturday, 31 January 1976. Before dawn at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle. Security Policemen on patrol near a radar site saw lights where nothing should be. The press later placed it over the east end of Duke Field. Round. Bluish green. Trailing a faint vapor. One policeman said it looked as big as a C-130 or a Boeing 707. About half a dozen people watched it hang there until the sky began to pale. An airman shot some 40 photographs. Nothing showed on the negatives. Radar saw nothing either. By that afternoon the sighting had reached the Pentagon, logged in a memo signed by a brigadier general.
