Context
Bolam Lake sits in a country park about 9 miles west of Morpeth, in Northumberland. It was dug from 1816 by the architect John Dobson, out of "a swampy area known as Bolam Bog". In January 2003 it drew unusual visitors. Jon Downes, director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology, arrived with zoologist Richard Freeman, Graham Inglis and John Fuller. Geoff Lincoln of British Hominid Research guided them. Members of the Twilight Worlds Paranormal Research Group from South Shields joined the watch. That winter Britain had a wave of "man-beast" reports, from Sherwood Forest to Cannock Chase. Bolam had its own.
