Every September, the town of Van Meter, Iowa, remembers its strangest visitor. The Van Meter Visitor Festival is held each late September, around the anniversary of the 1903 encounter. It features monster walking tours, talks and reenactments. Chad Lewis leads the walking tours. He co-wrote the 2013 book The Van Meter Visitor: A True and Mysterious Encounter with the Unknown with Noah Voss and Kevin Lee Nelson, which revived the case and argued against the hoax theory. Expedition X brought its cameras to town in 2021.
