A town in Kent, on the English coast above Romney Marsh, with Army firing ranges beneath a busy flight path. Sunday, 21 April 1991. An Alitalia MD-80 under Captain Achille Zaghetti crossed the coast near Lydd at 22,000 feet, and its crew reported a missile-like object. The ministry checked the Lydd ranges for an accidental launch. By 2 July 1991 it had ruled them out, and the case remains unsolved. Lydd became the first in a run of 1991 airliner reports over southern England, including the Dan-Air 737 projectile near Gatwick and the Britannia Airways black lozenge.
