An eighteen-year-old from Limehouse. On 28 February 1838 Lucy Scales was walking home with her sister from their brother's house in Narrow Street. In Green Dragon Alley a tall, cloaked man with a small lantern waited in silence, then blew blue flame into her face. She was briefly blinded, fell, and suffered violent fits for hours. Her attack came nine days after Jane Alsop's, yet only one paper reported it. Both cases became the root of the Spring-heeled Jack legend, still recalled when a mob fired on him at Newport Arch, Lincoln, in 1877.
