A bulldozer operator from Salyer, California. Summer 1958. Jerry Crew was running a catskinner on Bluff Creek Road, a new timber road through the Six Rivers National Forest, when he found 16-inch tracks and made a plaster cast. The Humboldt Times coined a name for the maker: Bigfoot. Ivan T. Sanderson told his story in True magazine in December 1959, and Roger Patterson read it. In 1967, on the same creek, came the Patterson-Gimlin film. Sceptics later pointed to contractor Ray Wallace, whose family said after his death in November 2002 that he was behind the tracks.
