Department of Transport

Organisation 3 stories, 1954 to 1978

A government transport department, and a name that surfaces in more than one country's files. In Canada, its senior radio engineer Wilbert Brockhouse Smith ran Project Magnet. August 10, 1954. The department admitted to three and a half years of UFO research, with considerable data but no definite conclusions, and the project was ended. In 1969 a spokesman answered the Fort Smith lights with weather balloons, though the sightings came later in the evening. In Australia, the Department of Transport's 315-page file on the Valentich disappearance over Bass Strait concluded that the reason had not been determined.
