Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976

Term 3 stories, 1976 to 2005

A British law, and a theory that shadows the big cat reports. The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 received Royal Assent on 22 July 1976. One week later, something walked across a field on Tollerton Lane, on the southern edge of Nottingham. In the years that followed, the Act became a common explanation for Britain's big cats: exotic pets released or dumped by owners. It was raised for Felicity, the Cannich Puma of 1980, though a tawny puma did not match the black cat Jessie Chisholm described. It followed the Beast of Sydenham too.
