The French wave of 1954
In the autumn of 1954 France had more close encounters in ten weeks than in any year before or since. A railwayman at Quarouble met two small figures beside a dark machine on the tracks. Landings and ground marks came in from village after village, and on 27 October a football match in Florence stopped while the crowd watched objects cross the sky above the stadium. Austria and Greece had their own that month.
