February 21, 1968. Twelve minutes past midnight. Six people driving home from work between Barkhamsted and Winsted, Connecticut, felt their engine start to miss. On the left of the highway, in a forest clearing about 150 feet away, sat a silvery domed disc. A cone of white light shone from beneath it. A green lit window glowed in its dome. They watched for around 15 minutes before it flew away. Late that same day, in Winsted, a 12-year-old girl heard a "bloop-bloop" noise outside her bedroom window. What she saw next, at the abandoned railroad station behind her home, became one of the strangest entries in the humanoid catalogues.

Context

Winsted is a village in the town of Winchester, in Litchfield County, Connecticut. By early 1968 it was already building a reputation. On 15 September 1967, two teenage girls there had watched a large glowing object and three small figures with oversized heads running near a barn. That case appears to start a local wave. A 2013 Patch community post would later call Winsted "one of the great UFO windows of our country."
