Sighting record / 1969
Waipukurau Aerodrome, New Zealand. About 3:10 am on 30 October 1969. Security officer John Cudby was checking a glass door at the hangar when he saw three lights reflected in it. Two green, one red. His Alsatian was already growling at them. Behind him, a large object hovered about 60 feet above the grass. Perfectly round. At least 60 feet across. It shone like chrome under his searchlight, and the moment the beam touched it, its motors started up with a whine that seemed to go right through him. Then it tilted towards him and shot up into the sky. Out on the field, where it had hovered, the air was warm and the grass was dry.
