Villa Urquiza Daylight Silver Disc, Buenos Aires (1988)

c. 1988 · Villa Urquiza, Buenos Aires, Argentina
19Thinly documented UAP Disc / saucer 15 sources

Christmas, 1988. Buenos Aires. By most later accounts, Argentina was opening presents and sitting down to lunch. Over Villa Urquiza, a densely populated neighbourhood in the north-west of the city, a silver object appeared in broad daylight. The story says more than 7,500 people saw it. It is told as a saucer that moved slowly and silently over rooftops, buildings and streets, then headed west toward Avenida General Paz. Staff at the city airport are said to have caught it on radar. It has been called the most spectacular UFO incident in Argentina. Yet no photograph, no named witness and no 1988 newspaper report has ever surfaced.

Context

Villa Urquiza sits in the north-west of the city of Buenos Aires, bounded by streets such as Constituyentes, Roosevelt and La Pampa. Beyond it, past neighbouring districts, runs Avenida General Paz, the ring road around the capital. In lists of Argentine UFO cases, one line keeps returning to this neighbourhood. It calls what happened here the most spectacular UFO incident of Argentina.
