Tucson, Arizona. May 9, 1949. 2:30 in the afternoon. A flight engineer and former military pilot was relaxing in a lawn chair outside his home. Two round objects passed directly overhead. At first they might have been balloons. Then they turned together, in formation, and banked. Side-on, they were flat. Silvery. Roughly 25 feet across, he estimated, and moving at between 750 and 1,000 miles per hour. They made one more course correction and slipped out of sight over the nearby mountains. The Air Force logged the report as Incident 337. It was never explained.

Context

Spring 1949. The Air Force was collecting flying saucer reports under Project Grudge. Tucson had already produced one. On April 28, eleven days before this case, three men in the city watched a bright, sausage-shaped object for 40 minutes as it "rolled and flew fast."
