A stormy evening in 1957. A reporter's car broke down near a large brick farmhouse outside Wisbech. The family inside took him in and told him about the haunting. Hannath Hall, at Tydd St Giles in the Cambridgeshire fens, was home to Derek Page, then the Labour candidate for King's Lynn, his wife Catherine and their two young children. Mrs Page heard noises, including what sounded like footsteps. Then the Society for Psychical Research arrived. Over three years, Tony Cornell and Alan Gauld heard sharp raps that answered questions in code. They watched a chair fly past them. They were shut in a room by a brass toasting fork nobody could account for. They found no trickster.

A stormy evening

The family were Derek Page, then the Labour parliamentary candidate for King's Lynn, his wife Catherine and their two young children. Mrs Page described a variety of noises, including what sounded like footsteps. In 1959, in the living room, she twice saw "the figure of 'a small fair-haired boy'". At the top of the stairs there was a sense of a presence, as if "someone is there behind you ready to push you".
