Gippsland, Victoria. 1933. A farmer named Siggins saw something in the bush near his property at Gunyah. A large beast, similar to a lioness. About six feet long, with a large cat-like head. It gave a snarling cry, similar to a cat but deeper. He was not alone. Two clergymen reported similar animals. A Fisheries and Game inspector recorded prints six inches long. Armed search parties went into the bush. The press had a name for it now. The Gippsland Monster. In the years that followed it was blamed on a postman who lost his boots, a giant wombat and a dingo. Each answered part of the mystery. None answered all of it.

Context
